After my mother took some of the Oreo Cookies and Cream Cupcakes into work, one of her colleagues asked if I would be interested in making nineteen of the cupcakes for her daughter’s nineteenth birthday.
When it got closer to the time, A asked if I could arrange the cupcakes in the shape of the number 19. After how pleased I was with how the Golf Course Cupcake Cake, having a go at another pull apart cupcake was something I was more than happy to do and so the 19th Birthday Cupcake Cake was created.
This might not be a pull apart cupcake cake in the same sense given the cupcakes aren’t iced/joined together but I will still claim it if you let me.
I am loving covered cake boards since my BBQ cake and really should have jumped on the bandwagon sooner as I am sure it would have finished off my Purple Corset Cake quite nicely. So once again I covered this board with the leftover yellow fondant from the corn on the BBQ cake and reused the Happy Birthday imprinter I used for my Dad’s cupcake cake.
Ideally I would have liked to get all 19 cupcakes on the board but it was a tad too small so I was only able to get 17 on there. Before covering the board I placed the cupcakes on it until I was happy with the shape and took a picture (so I could remember where to put them once I covered the board).
The cupcake cases I ended up using weren’t flat bottomed and had a little ridge. To get the cupcakes to stick to the board I took one of the spare cupcake cases and pushed it into the fondant. I also spread a little of the leftover icing on the bottom of the case that would be touching the fondant to ensure they didn’t move on their 40 minute car trip.
For a little bit of extra effort, I really like this way of presenting the cupcakes so I might use it more in the future.
But I might try to work on getting my “9” to look a little bit less of a “g”.
